Regent Dance Hall

Bert talks about some of the history of regent dance hall

The Regent was a real part of Brighton's social life for the nurses and new arrivals who came to the city in the 1950s and 60s. Elaine Humphrey, who trained at Brighton General Hospital after arriving from Jamaica, specifically remembered dancing at the Regent as one of the joys of her time in the city. That same spirit of African and Caribbean music being at the heart of Brighton life continued into the twenty-first century through events like African Night Fever.
