Bert arrived in England from Jamaica in 1960, part of the same Windrush generation whose wider story is told in Building Brighton's NHS. His wife Shirley made her own journey from British Guiana to Brighton General Hospital in the same period, and it was here that their lives and their shared commitment to Brighton's communities began.
